WURKUN FEMALE FIGURE

Female Wurkun Style Figure, Nigeria. African Sculpture

Columnar figure carved in raised relief with an enlarged head and elongated neck synonymous with Wurkun or Kundul sculpture. Other distinguishing features are the protruding navel, cylindrical body with arms and hands connected as a single oval raised ridge. These figures are usually traditionally mounted on iron spikes.

The Wurkun like the Mumuye, Chamba and Jukun people live along the Benue River in eastern Nigeria.

Condition:

This figure shows signs of age and handling but in good overall condition . Minimal wood loss. It is being presented as collected, unmounted.
