A small Kenyan soapstone carving capturing the form of a hippopotamus. The piece exemplifies the skilled craftsmanship characteristic of vintage East African sculpture.

Each figure possesses subtle variations in tone and patina, testament to the stone's natural composition and handling. A singular acquisition for the discerning collector. This example presents in excellent condition with no signs of wear or damage.

Soapstone  is a magnesium rich rock made mostly of the mineral talc. It has a smooth, soft texture that feels waxy or soapy to the touch.
